Our Story

From one small home to a trusted name in Auckland care

Molly Ryan Care was founded in 1999 by registered nurse Elizabeth Harding and her husband, health administrator Peter Harding, after witnessing the gap between the institutional care of the era and what older New Zealanders truly deserved.

Starting with a single 28-bed home in Remuera, Elizabeth and Peter built the organisation around one core belief: that every person, regardless of age or ability, deserves to be seen, respected and cared for as an individual.

Today we operate from our flagship Albany home and support hundreds of residents and families across the greater Auckland region, with a team of more than 180 professionals who share that founding vision. We remain proudly family-owned and community-focused.

Our Mission

To enrich the lives of older New Zealanders through compassionate, person-centred care that protects dignity, independence and connection — supporting both residents and the families who love them.

Our Vision

An Aotearoa where growing older is met with warmth, respect and excellent care — where every person feels safe, valued and genuinely at home, whatever their needs.

Community Commitment

Rooted in our community

We believe a care home should be part of its community, not apart from it. We welcome local schools, kapa haka groups, volunteers and community organisations, and we support our team to give back through local initiatives.

We work alongside New Zealand organisations including Dementia NZ, Alzheimers NZ, Hospice and Age Concern, and we actively support carer education in our community. Intergenerational visits, cultural celebrations and shared events keep our residents connected to the world around them.
